Highway Love Season 1 Review: A Breezy,Heartwarming Detour

Movie LifeNovember 20, 2022

If you are looking for a lighthearted escape from heavy dramas, Highway Love, directed by Sahir Raza, offers a refreshing pit stop. Shifting away from his usual serious narratives like Illegal, Raza delivers a sweet, four-episode romantic comedy that explores the “meet-cute” trope on the open road.

The Plot: A Chance Encounter

The story centers on two polar opposites who meet under unusual circumstances on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Watch Now

  • Inaya (Gayatri Bhardwaj) is a fiery, assertive woman recently abandoned on the highway by her ex-boyfriend.

  • Kartik, aka “Dhun Dhun” (Ritvik Sahore), is a shy, introverted guy who finds himself stranded with a flat tire he doesn’t know how to fix.

When Inaya steps in to help, an unexpected bond forms. Despite their contrasting personalities, they embark on a journey that evolves from a simple car ride into a meaningful connection.

Performance and Chemistry

The highlight of the series is undoubtedly the lead pair. Having previously worked together in Ishq Express, Ritvik Sahore and Gayatri Bhardwaj bring a natural, “grounded” chemistry to the screen.

  • Gayatri Bhardwaj shines as the feisty lead, often overshadowing Kartik’s reticent nature with her vibrant energy.

  • Ritvik Sahore perfectly captures the awkwardness of a shy individual stepping out of his comfort zone.

While the supporting characters—Sahil (Vvansh Sethi) and Meera (Gunit Cour)—add some noise as an overly affectionate couple, the focus remains firmly on the evolving dynamics between the two leads.

Fantasy vs. Reality

The show leans into a “dreamy” narrative that might feel a bit far-fetched for the real world. While many of us have found close companions in strangers, falling in love with someone you just met on a highway is a tough sell for the skeptics. However, the show isn’t trying to be a gritty documentary; it’s a feel-good drama about communication, expression, and the “burger and fries” kind of compatibility where two different things just work together.

The Verdict

“Simple, predictable, but undeniably charming.”

StrengthsWeaknesses
Lead Chemistry: Ritvik and Gayatri are a delight to watch.Predictable Plot: You can see the ending from the first mile.
Short Runtime: Easy to binge-watch in one sitting (2 hours total).Surface Level: Doesn’t dive very deep into complex relationship issues.
Feel-Good Vibes: A perfect palate cleanser after heavy thrillers.Realism: The “stranger-to-lover” timeline feels a bit rushed.

Final Thoughts:

Highway Love doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it doesn’t have to. It is a pleasant, slow-paced journey that reminds us that sometimes the best things in life happen when we take an unplanned turn.
